Lane joins RA from his long-term role as Head Rowing Coach at the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) where he has a history of on water success and of developing athletes throughout the Pathway. He has extensive international experience having coached at multiple World Championship regattas, including the bronze medal winning Women’s Double in 2014, also achieving a world’s best time at the same regatta, and the Women’s Quad at the 2012 Olympic Games, achieving a fourth placed finish.
Lane was awarded SASI Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2017 and, since 2016, has led multiple national underage Teams as Head Coach.
Deputy Performance Director, Jaime Fernandez, who leads and oversees the RA Pathway Program, says of the appointment, “I’m excited to have someone of Jason’s character and experience joining the Pathway Team. It’s important to recognise the role Lyall McCarthy has played, and I believe Jason will build on the important work that has already been done, bringing his own experience to working with and growing our Pathway of talented young women and men across the country. I really look forward to working with him in this capacity.”
By virtue of this appointment, Lane will join the Rowing Australia Underage Selection Panel. He will be based in Canberra, facilitating the continued collaboration between RA’s Pathway and National Training Centre programs.
“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work more broadly across our pathway system. The program has great foundations, and I am looking forward to helping develop the next generation of athletes and coaches,” Lane says of his new appointment.
Lane will start in the role on 4 April.
