Rowing Australia today announced the lane draw for the various events of the 2015 King’s and Queen’s Cups Interstate Regatta, proudly supported by Infratects Pty Ltd, that will take place on 29 March at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith.
The Interstate Regatta is the pinnacle and closing event of the 2015 Sydney International Rowing Regatta (SIRR) and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports (details to be announced in due course).
Eight different events make up SIRR with points being awarded for each event to then ultimately see one state crowned Interstate Champions and lifting the Rowing Australia Cup. The lane draw for this year’s event took place at Rowing Queensland, the current holders of the Rowing Australia Cup. The event has been dominated by Victoria, with the state lifting the Rowing Australia Cup a record 11 times, while Queensland have won it twice in 2003 and 2014, while New South Wales have lifted the cup three times.
States are awarded points in each interstate event on the following basis:
- First place: 8 Points
- Second place: 6 Points
- Third place: 5 Points
- Fourth place: 4 Points
- Fifth place: 3 Points
- Sixth place: 2 points
- Seventh place: 1 point
Listed below is a brief description of each event at the King’s and Queen’s Cups Interstate Regatta and the lane draw for each event.
The King’s Cup – sponsored by Infratects Pty Ltd
The King’s Cup, donated by British monarch George V and won by the Australian Imperial Forces No.1 crew at the Royal Henley Peace Regatta in 1919 following the end of World War One, is the trophy that is the Eight-oared Men’s Championship race. Current champions New South Wales are drawn in Lane 6.

The President’s Cup
The cup was first competed for in 1926, The President’s Cup is the Men’s Single Scull Championship and was last year won by New South Welshman, Alexander Belonogoff.
